No means NO.

Last week, we got the dreaded phone call from the high school. Our fifteen year old daughter had been in an accident.

Seems she was just on her way to class, when a friend approached her in the hall.

He went to pick her up. She said "No".

But he continued.......and lost his balance.

She landed on her head, twisting her neck. He then fell backwards onto her.

Our daughter said she remembered saying "no" and then finding herself on the floor, unable to stand. She couldn't remember how she got there. We took her straight to hospital. Luckily, she "only" had a mild concussion and a wrenched neck. But she had to miss school and man, was she pissed about that!

It could have been so much worse...

My intention here is not to demonize the friend; he's genuinely sorry. But I'd like to use this story to open up a discussion about boundaries, respect for personal space, and the meaning of the word "no". When a person says "no" why doesn't it matter? No means NO.

Have you had an experience where your personal space was not respected?

I drew this one on the go, in Paper, on my iPad.

Easter BUNNY Contest!

With any luck I'll tick over to 15,000 fabulous Twitter followers this Easter weekend. Therefore it's time for another contest.

I'm gonna give away t-shirts and/or mugs from my Zazzle shop. Some poor unsuspecting tweep will win a prize just for being my 15,000th follower - and for my HILARIOUS and LOVELY 14,999 followers three more prizes are up for grabs.

Wanna play? First, feast your weary eyes on this image*.

And here's the RULES:
  1. Caption this drawing as a comment below.

  2. Go to my shop, look around, then come back and comment what t-shirt/mug design you'd like to win.

  3. Tweet this contest link with the following phrase "Gosh that @littleanimation is a #FunnyBunny!"
Yay cuz you can enter as many times as you like! Don't forget to include your Twitter handle or some way to contact you. I'll choose the three FUNNIEST captions and those will be the winners. Humor is subjective so I, and I alone, will decide this and my decision will be final.

Contest closes Saturday at midnight when the Easter Bunny lays his eggs; winners announced Easter Monday at 9 PM, Montreal time. Something to look forward to as you recover from your chocolate hangover.

* Inspired by a Twitter convo with the admirable @CJM156156.

WINNERS ANNOUNCED!

Geez so hard to choose, the entries were all funny...yet choose we must!

Third Prize goes to Kristin (@dragondream) for "You've got my eggs. Now, where the hell are your chocolate balls?" Where indeed, haha!

Second prize goes to Judy (@gypsymommy) for "No, those weren't chocolate covered raisins in the kitchen! Sorry! My Bad!". Naughty bunny, tsk tsk.

First prize goes to Rhiannon Fieri (@FroggyPrinceMom) for "When her husband promised to fulfill one of her fantasies, this was NOT what she had in mind." How did you know about my bunny suit thing Rhiannon?!?

Sketchy.

After checking out a few drawing apps on my mom's iPad, I went down and picked up my own one last night. I chose 3rd generation, white and silver, 64 gig with wifi. Still checking out different apps; this one is called Procreate.
Haven't yet found a drawing app that comes close to my blog's enhanced-stick-figure style, so I'll continue to use my desktop/Flash/Wacom setup for my work here.  But the iPad is an absolutely fab tool for drawing anywhere - as an artist, I hafta say it's setting me free. And yes, I did lick it when I took it out of the box. Didn't stop the 12 year old boy from trying to lick it too though.

For those who are wondering, the new iPad is slightly warm, but it's not hot or uncomfortable and I was drawing on it for hours. I have yet to explore it's other uses. Everyone keeps asking me to play Draw Something on it, but I hear it's super addictive, no?

To iPad or not to iPad...that is the Question.

I've been toying with the idea of getting an iPad. I mainly want to use it as a portable digital sketch book to create rough drawings for my blog, on the fly. Before I dish out the money the Board of Directors in my head want to know what the drawing apps can do. So I borrowed my mom's iPad, got myself a Wacom stylus and loaded up on apps. As far as duplicating my blog style, which is drawn in Adobe Flash, this is how it panned out so far.

I started with Sketchbook Pro - it felt good, though it's not a vector program. I don't mind it too much as a sketchy version of my blog drawings. What do you think? It does have a lot of 'feel'... and I did eventually discover the all-important-purple ha ha.

And then I tried a vector program called iDraw. The pencil tool only gives a line with uniform thickness.

So I gave the brush tool a shot - it can do thick and thin, but only calligraphy style. I don't like it. I found it difficult to control the select tool in iDraw.
Adobe Ideas was actually cool. It's super simple to use and the brush feels amazing. I think it came closest to the look of my blog style. But it's a little too simple for my needs. There's not nearly enough layers, there's no way to merge layers and there's no way to grab the whole image and move it around.

Then I went back to Sketchbook Pro and did this drawing of my dog. Holy crap this thing is fun!!!

So what's the verdict - should I spring for an iPad or what? Do you guys think you can handle the occasional post done in a sketchy style?

Questions that need answers!

My Inheritance!

Imagine my surprise when this notary called on Friday to tell me my long lost Great Aunt Tillie had passed away and left me the whopping sum of $275,000 in her will. I tell you my hair flew back and stayed back. I, The Animated Woman, am now rolling in the dough.

I’m rich!!

I never even knew I had a Great Aunt Tillie, but apparently I do did.

There’s one small catch though. The notary said I can only have access to the money once I unscramble this puzzle – but it’s so easy! Great Aunt Tillie just drew it on a random piece of paper; seems she was something of an eccentric. I must take after her, heh, heh.

YAY! Gee, I’ve never been rich before… what should I spend the money on?
