Deeds & Magpie!

Little Deeds doesn't know it yet but he's getting an updated version of the Dog4Deeds drawing with Magpie on a t-shirt.

Don't know who Deeds is? He's a little boy with autism. And Magpie is his autism service dog - she keeps an eye on him. It was nearly a year ago that Caryn Haluska AKA @ihave7monsters recruited me to help Deeds' family. Back then, none of us knew what kind of dog would be found for Deeds, so I drew a Golden Retriever. Turns out Magpie is a pretty Black Lab!

I'm still so proud of what we achieved together. It was one of those special social media moments where so many folks came together to help someone. You know who you are.

Don't tell Deeds about the t-shirt!

The Supah-Sam CONTEST!

Introducing...four year old Sam, who loves peanut butter and jelly passionately, and wants to fly through the sky in a blue Supah Suit. Did I mention his favorite color?

This imaginative little boy is the surro-baby of my friend The Smartness AKA @JWMoxie. She cried out for help last week cuz Sam has leukemia. That's cancer folks.

Why the contest? Morale!

Sam just started chemo and he's bravely facing the ordeal with his parents, Terry and Stephanie, and a very fine companion named Chemo Duck. I wanna cheer them on.

Now, when you're four... your imagination is in free flow, unfettered by responsibilities. So for this contest, I want you to pretend that you are four years old, like Sam! Use your imagination.

All you have to do to enter is comment below, like this:
  1. "Dear anummated laydi, I'm 4 years old, my name is _________ and I want you to draw me dooing _________. Draw me as cool as Supah-Sam."

  2. Get out there in the real world and hug somebody you love. This part is super important. If you don't do it your name will be mud.

  3. Then Stumble, Tweet, G+ or Facebook this contest. Use this hash tag liberally - #SaveOurSam.
Zee Prize: I'll draw the winner as a four year old and give them a t-shirt AND a mug with it.

Zee Rules: You can only enter once. Most inspiring entry wins. I get to decide that and if you want to know how my brain works, well, just check out a few of my previous contests. If there's over a hundred entries I'll award a few consolation prizes. Contest closes Friday December 2nd at midnight. Winners announced the following Monday.

By entering this contest, you agree to allow me to draw you and to blog the drawing of you. I own the artwork but you can use it as your avatar if you want!

I like to get behind causes from time to time. A little animation can go a long way.

From Couch Potato... to SUPER SPUD!

How did the couch potato...

...turn into a super spud?
Motivation.

Stewart Rogers @TheRealSJR wants to raise cash and awareness for the Make-A-Wish Foundation by getting off his lazy french-fried butt couch to run the 10K Obstacle Course Challenge. This is gonna grant wishes to children and young people fighting life-threatening illnesses.

I wanna help too....but I'm a draw-er not a runner. So I'm gonna draw one of YOU. Yeah!

It's a contest:
  1. Go donate to Stewart's fundraiser. Give what you can. Even $1 gets you entered.
  2. Leave your name and Twitter handle (or some other way to find you) in the comments below.
  3. Hit the Tweet button below, and wish @TheRealSJR luck.
How will I know you've done all three? I have my eye on you (<-- see what I did there?). Contest closes Thursday November 11th, 2011 at 11:11 PM EST.

The Prize:
On Sunday November 13th, one day after Stewart has survived kicked this obstacle course in the goolies, I'll draw the winner...and draw the winner. You'll get a t-shirt or mug with your "mug" on it.
    DONATE NOW.
    Every little bit helps.

    Get WELL Soon!

My friend's son (who is the same age as and is friends with my 11 year old son) just got his burst appendix out, so he has a very BIG owie. He's very brave! And I was making him this "get well soon" card when I thought, hey, maybe some of my followers have a friend with a very BIG owie who could use a card like this.

The thing that is awesome about this card is that it has a PICKLE Weasel Bandaid on it! That little rascal; he gets everywhere. I love him!

So if you know someone who needs a "get well soon" card, print this one out and give it to them.* Just let me know in the comments below if it cheered them up. I hope it does.
*No selling though. That would be uncool.

    It's totally FREE. You're welcome!

    UPDATE: June 13, 2011.
I gave this little boy the card and his face lit up. His mom said he hadn't smiled like that in weeks. Laughter makes the best medicine!

Also: You may notice that a Troll has visited the comments below. And this is how to deal with a Blog TROLL.

You can make someone else smile by sharing.

    BEING The CHANGE.

Last week everything was good. It was March Break and the kids were home from school. I was hanging out with the 11 year old boy and one day I said, "C'mon Boy! Let's wrap up all the loose change in the house!"

At first he complained, but he couldn't resist my enthusiasm.

We collected all the dimes, nickles and pennies, and wrapped them up in rolls.

Then came the fun part: counting the money. It came out to a whopping $45!! Enough for a pizza party.

But we decided instead, to donate the change to "A Dog For Deeds", to help him get his autism service dog.

Three year old Deeds needs that dog more than we need another pizza party.

I felt happy. Everything was good.

    And then this happened.

    Ohhh...Japan.

I tried to grasp it. And I became afraid...

    Then I wept.

But most of all, I felt ...powerless.

And then I remembered that I was not alone.

There are, in fact, quite a number of us. And in our own small ways we are all hoping, praying, giving and working to make things better.

Wrapping up loose change is a really, really great activity to do with your kids on March Break.

    A Boy, a Blog and a DOG. - #forDeeds

Sometimes life hands you an opportunity to help someone. When that happens, you should just do it. When Living with Logan blogger Caryn @ihave7monsters asked me to draw something for her friends Bobbie and Jeremy @Dog4Deeds, I said YES!!

This is their son, 3 year old Deeds. He has autism, and is on a quest to get an Autism Service Dog. Deeds is still healing from a serious burn by the way, that's why his little face is all pink.

Bobbie and Jeremy have set up DogforDeeds.com. These dogs are mind-blowingly amazing. They're specially trained to stay close to the child, nuzzle during repetitive behaviours, interrupt and calm meltdowns, and locate missing children with their incredible noses in the case that they should wander off. These are just a few of the realities of raising a child with autism. Little Deeds needs this dog.
I donated this drawing of Deeds and his Sock Monkey bonding with their dog. Picture drinking your coffee from a mug with this on it. Or on a cute toddler  t-shirt. Deed's parents set up a Zazzle shop just so you can!

The family is just under halfway to meeting their funding goal. The good news is that we can help! Go visit Caryn's Very Special Post For Deeds and check out the artwork and the PRIZES. There's a custom t-shirt, and I've donated a few of Little Animation's DVD's for kids. Don't miss this opportunity to help one little boy live a better, safer life.

"JC! What can I do to help out?"

Caryn's got badges and a Linky up so everyone can stay connected. You can blog a version of this post for Deeds, Tweet #forDeeds, Facebook and share this widely!!

    YOU. Trevor.

    Dear Trevor,

I heard about your upcoming operation from my friend The Peach. I wanted to just say hi and give you a little drawing to cheer you on. We got your back out here in the blogosphere, dude. And by the way, flowers that are drawn are almost as cool as real flowers. Plus they don't need a vase, and they last forever. They don't have a smell, but you don't have to worry about being allergic to them. Achoo!

    Yours truly,

    JC Little
    The Animated Woman

This little boy is 12 years old, just a little older than my son. He's going in for heart surgery on November 30th and he must be very brave. Want to send Trevor a card? The awesome Being Peachy blogger will make it easy for you!

Thanks Peach, for giving me a chance to give.

This is the third in a series called "YOU".  I draw YOU. Read the rules.
