My kids are superheroes.

I drew my kids as superheroes.

This was kind of a cool exercise, as an artist and as a mom; I had to really think about their characters, their individual strengths and gifts. I had fun with the poses and costume details.

Also, no one knows a superhero's back story like their mom.

If your kid was a superhero, what would their power be?

I am Santa.

SPOILER ALERT: Don't show this to your kids if they still believe.

Usually I'm too busy to contribute to Neil's Annual Blogger Christmahanukwanzaakah Online Holiday Concerts, and this year is no exception. But last night, at around 11 PM, I thought I'd throw some animation together with this Christmas lullaby I wrote for my kids when they were little.

Yeah, I was thinking maybe just a couple of drawings...but when I next looked up from my animation, it was 6 o'clock in the morning. Oopsies.

Guys, I did it again.

The song is called "I am Santa" and it riffs off the idea that these kids are supposed to be good in order to get treats. By the way, I subscribe to the philosophy that people should just be good, period. Parenting is hard. It's hard to teach little people how to be good. It's hard to watch them grow up and not need you anymore...

When I wrote this song, my daughters were eight and eleven years old, so they already had inklings about Santa, the Easter Bunny and the Tooth Fairy. But my son was only five and even though he sang along with a big smile whenever I played it, he didn't actually figure out what it was about until he was ten.

Uh.... now I'm nervous. Because it's just a dinky little acoustic recording. But whatever, it's from the heart and the thirteen-year-old boy loved it. So this is for him.

For a splendid array of seasonal spirit, songs, poems and videos by real authentic actual people, go see Neil's Eight Annual Blogger Christmahanukwanzaakah Online Holiday Concert, CitizenoftheMonth. It's one of the best blogs out there, at any time of year, and I'm not just saying that.

The Dare.

"Dad can you drive me to my friend's house please?"

"Sure, just let me get dressed." The Huz was wearing naught but his flip-flops and a sarong. For those who know not what a sarong is, it's a piece of pretty cloth wrapped around the waist and worn by men and women alike in South East Asia. Rather like a skirt. Yes, his nipples were showing.

So of course I said, "I dare you to go wearing that." He rolled his eyes and smiled, picked up the car keys and headed for the garage with the 12 year old boy in tow.

"I'm prolly going to tweet this!!!" I shouted after him. The Huz just laughed.

He had that evil twinkle. It reminded me of that thing he did with that bucket...

An hour later he came back and said he'd been to the shop on the way home to pick up some music equipment. The Huz asked them for a discount since he was only wearing a sarong. And they gave it to him. Oh yes they did. And he said they offered him a further 10% off if he was naked.

I dunno, I think he's making that last bit up....

I sat in my garden and drew this on my iPad, using Paper and a Wacom Bamboo stylus.

Clown Suit

The 13 year old daughter had a party last night. No less than TEN (10) teenagers, boys and girls, arrived for a water fight. Lucky for me, they had the water fight in the park. When they came back to the house for snacks, it was deemed that one particular boy was much too soaking wet to be allowed into the house. I knew nothing about that last bit, by the way.

Anyhow, the rest of the gang came in, dried off and got on with the party. So this poor boy was obediently waiting outside for a good 30 minutes, when he decided to finally ring the doorbell.

He's standing there, still dripping with H2O and he says,

"Can I please come in? I'll wait in the garden until it's time to go."

Of course I immediately got him in and asked my eldest daughter to find him something wear whilst we threw his clothes in the drier. She brought him the clown suit. And he put it on.

This kid is my new hero. And that's why he's here on my blog. Doesn't he look smashing?
