Exercise & Bras.

I've been making a few incremental changes in my life lately. Most of them are small things, like quitting drinking, spending time with loved ones, and brushing my teeth before bed. But they also include exercise. I am smart.

So today I'm going to talk to you about exercise and bras (my favourite fashion item). Have a look at the animated GIF here:

When I go running I wear a regular bra with a sports bra on top. Even so, I noticed that when I run around the park my bra straps fall down. I have to interrupt my rhythm to push them back up but they just fall down again. This is so frikkin' annoying it makes me want to give up! The health benefits of exercise are surely outweighed by the stress of having to return those dumb bra straps to my shoulders over and over. Right?

Anyways I was thinking, maybe I could do some kind of exercise that builds up my shoulder muscles. The muscle bulges would keep my bra straps from falling down again.

OK geniuses, what kind of exercise do I need to do to achieve this goal?

Sometimes I do a mini-workout first thing in the morning. It can be tempting to roll out of bed and do jumping jacks in my pyjamas before I'm completely awake.

It never occurred to me that my un-tethered gazongas might render me unconscious with their wild swinging.

Jumping-jack TKO.

It was a big mistake and I won't be doing that again.

Next time I'll just put my bra on, on top of my jammies.

Exercise is good for you!

    1. I forgot to mention that I do wear a sports bra on top of a regular bra. When I say "regular" I mean heavy-duty. Straps still fall down.

  2. Yep, racerback or two sports bras. Regular bras just don't have the proper support and damn those straps! Love this post.

  4. Hahahaa! I solved that problem by simply eliminating a bra when I was a runner...but. I am "petite" in that area. If you really want to build your shoulders up, SWIM! *I know you were expecting me to say that* Seriously, though. You should see my shoulders. They are much wider than my hips...and you don't have to deal with all that stinky sweaty stuff. Well. Actually, you do sweat when you swim... but I swear it isn't stinky! Love the cartoons, of course. Must share!

  8. Sorry to say that it doesn't work that way - shoulder muscles holding up bras, I mean. You could totally known yourself out with your knockers.

It comes down to the bra - check out some plus size bras - they sometimes address sports bras for the well endowed (including doubling up). Marianne Kirby has written about it. Or just talk to customer service at someplace like Title 9 sportswear and they should be able to help you out.

    1. Bra's in my size are hard to find. 32F and resembling a tennis ball in a looooooong sock.

    2. there is a solution! you can get these gadgets that fit across your bra straps to hold them up, and keep them in place....most often worn by old ladies (who's shoulders are the droopy things) but who wants to stick with stereotypes hey?!

  9. Your drawings are brilliant! I'm getting a workout laughing.

But as someone who faithfully did the "We must, we must, we must increase our bust" chant for YEARS without any hint that it worked, I have no idea what you're talking about. But I promise never to tell you, by way of encouragement, "knock yourself out."

  12. This post cracked me up! Being naturally flat of chest, these are experiences that aren't in my repertoire. Two sports bras maybe? Or some non-impact forms of exercise?

  13. and this is why i only exercise in the pool -- boobs turn into natural Flotation device.

  14. When are they gonna invent a bra that doesn't slide off the shoulders. Oh, I know, there are some, but that's not good enough. I want them ALL to be slide proof. Maybe we should've been born with velcro on our shoulders.

  16. Jumping jack TKO! Hilarious.

Also: lack of a proper exercise bra is one good reason I don't exercise.
